Gel print Monoprint

I don’t pretend to be an expert but I do enjoy playing with paint in gel printing. The effects you can make are never ending and the prints are often very textured and abstract. Gel prints are very versatile and can be used as collage, designs for making cards and artwork.

Basic supplies you need:

·       Gel plate – this can be bought or made. I am using a bought one at the moment as it can be used over and over again.

·       Brayer or roller.

·       Acrylic paints.

·       Paper – not too thick. I use 200 gsm thickness but deli paper and thinner Japanese is good to use in collage. I use a piece of masking tape at the top of the gel print to keep the paper in position.

Textures can be made with so many different objects such as stencils, bubble wrap and crumpled paper. My favourite textures are pressed botanical leaves and grasses from the garden.
